We get upclose with her to find out a little bit more about her and to celebrate her and find out how she OwnsHer Beautiful.

Has the career you’re in always been your dream career?

Yes actually! My desire was to do a graphic designing course at one of the well-known colleges but it didn’t happen. Instead l did my training at a very unknown private college where l used to stay.l used to sit by the gate and sell avocados and ‘supercools’ but I would always tell myself that I would get there.l then started working at companies where people would look down upon me, sometimes treating me like a worthless human being. Most of the knowledge l have now is through experience throughout the years l have been in the industry and I still feel I am not yet exactly where I want to be, designing wise.Everyday is a learning day for me and I enjoy my work, I generally learn new things everyday. I also do Desktop Publishing which l was in-house trained at a certain N.G.O. It’s actually funny now they have even forgotten they trained me… I don’t mean to brag but I’m a fast learner (Laughs)… they thought I was well equipped.

There’s something about people, all of us maybe, stereotypes and discrimination are born from not understanding people who are a bit different from us. Please tell us about your childhood.

The condition I have, well doctors have never really given me the name but I can no longer walk without the aid of a walker. It all started when I was in grade 4 otherwise all along I walked perfectly, in- fact I ran and  I  was an asset to the athletics team, a team without me was not a team at all (Laughs). I think what saddened me the most was not being able to participate in Athletics anymore.I was never treated differently… but felt like at primary school boys used to fear me because l was a bit tough.First day at high school was a bit bad however,  because when we were in the hall being screened to our appropriate classes, everybody broke into a fit of laughter when l stood up to walk. But the second day and all years to come hahahaha, people loved me.My mother and sister have the same condition so we learnt to support each other as a family plus there are still many good people around.

What else do you like to do besides Graphic Designing?

Oooh my!!! I like cooking, well I like eating African dishes like ‘Sadzarezviyo’ but I can’t really cook them.l love listening to music, old school music, international and a bit of local old school. Gospel music also speaks to my Soul. I also love looking good (Laughs)

Lastly, any words of encouragement?

I would like to encourage everyone not to worry about what people think. Negative vibes affect people in the same way and one can never be good enough for negative people whether your limbs are fully functional or not.  Learn to embrace the good and dump the negative. Love yourself because that’s where it starts and remember what counts is the inner you not outer because the body is just a container that the spirit stays in.

Thank you Ennie!
