And finally Miss World Zimbabwe was crowned on the 22nd of July. Introducing the newly crowned Miss World Zimbabwe, Chiedza Lorraine Mhosva. The University of Cape Town film and acting 22 year old student came top of 16 contestants with Everlyn Njelele and Kundai Claire Somerai winning first and second runner up respectively. Tariro Zvizhinji won Miss Personality which was based on public votes.
Miss World Zimbabwe, Miss Mhosva, is apparently signed to a South African modelling agent, Decean Modelling Agency and is no new face to the modelling industry. Her belief is that for models to make it in the industry, guidance from modelling agencies is essential. Miss Mhosva was over the moon and noted that the $10 000 cash price will come in handy in covering her tuition fees but firstly, her mum deserved a bit of pampering. The young lady highlighted that she worked tooth and nail for the crown with the help of Marry Chiwenga, whose organising skills as Miss Zimbabwe Trust Chairperson made the event a success. The event ran with the theme, ‘Celebrating beauty in the eyes of our late icon, Kiki Divaris’. The pageant was graced by various performers including South Africa’s Ringo Madlingozi, who belted out his hits, Into yam and Sondela amongst other tracks. Aleck Macheso brought it home with his track, Charakupa. None the less, critics descended on the event citing the model’s nervousness, poor lighting, choreography and music choices as substandard.
All in all, the event was a success and we do wish Miss Mhosva a lovely reign.
