Danayi Honors The Woman Who Gave Her Confidence and Pride in Her Gifts

October 26, 2020

My mother is my key influence, there are many things with regards to her character that I love and really look up to. She made me feel like it was okay to be ‘creative’, she gave me pride in my gifts. As a black Zimbabwean girl, she showed me that there was value in being creatively inclined, and that it was no less valuable than an accountant, doctor or any other profession. She would always equate me to her mother who was also a maker and constantly in the business of beautifying things and making things more aesthetically pleasing. In my early 20’s my mother was my key support system when I wanted to venture off and start my own Fashion Magazine. She gave me the confidence to walk into people’s offices and ask for sponsorship or various business pitches.
