Rising up from the ashes of Disappointment
You have invested your blood, sweat, tears and hard earned money into a business idea which looked solid on paper. It was a sure, foolproof plan that would surely bring in heavy returns, but instead it tanked. No money came. Now you are at a loss and you are not sure how you will rise above it and heal from the devastating disappointment.
Everything Happens for a Reason
Firstly, you need to understand that it was not your fault. Don’t beat yourself up about it. This is so cliche but everything does indeed happen for a reason. You need to trust that God neither sleeps nor slumbers on your case. He cannot be surprised by anything. He sees all and knows all and everything He does will work out for your own good. Only He knows what lay ahead if your business had flourished too early. Maybe you would have been robbed, cheated, arrested or even worse. Failure is part of your process.
Patience. He’s Got You
Trust the process. God says He will order your steps. Don’t get angry when he orders you in a different direction than you would have liked. All he wants is to see you prosper. All the successful people had to endure hardships before their ideas thrived. So do not be dismayed by the fiery trial before you. The pain that you are feeling now is nothing compared to the glory that will be shown in you later. Don’t get too desperate to fill your own cup. That’s how people usually get poisoned. God says He will make your cup runneth over in due time. There are your plans and then there are God’s plans and God’s plan will trump yours anytime.
Walk Your Own Path
Don’t be envious of other people. Galatians 5:26 says, “Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.” Don’t ask, “Why me God when Sara’s business is booming?” You know nothing about Sara’s journey and what she had to endure to make it in life. No two paths will ever be the same. You will need to forge your own path and only God can help you. 1 Corinthians 2:9 states that, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”
All in God’s Time
You can’t negotiate with God. Only Moses negotiated with God. You cannot be asking God, “But Lord I have done everything correctly, I have been good, following your rules. Why are sinners prospering more than me?” Firstly, lean not on your own understanding. Trust in the Lord. You cannot earn grace and favour through deeds. They are given freely by God in His own time. Who are we to question the seasons of the Lord. The Bible says do not envy the wicked. Let us not forget that there will be a wealth transfer when all the things that the wicked have laid up will be transferred to the righteous. So count it in all joy when you see them prosper.
Delayed – not Denied
Don’t throw your toys out of the cot. It’s easy to throw in the towel after a huge disappointment. To start questioning yourself, your faith and everything you have believed in. As hard as it sounds, you need to get up and try again. Don’t stop working. You can’t give up and fold your hands. Proverbs 6:10 says, “Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.” Delay is not denial.
Things to remember
1. Pray about your business idea. God says he will bless the works of your hands.
2. Don’t give up. A little folding of the hands brings poverty.
3. Learn from your mistakes and devise ways to improve next time.
4. Have more than one income generating project.
5. In everything be grateful to God at all times.
6. All things under the sun are vanity. Focus on the things that will not rust or pass away.
